The "2008 International Workshop on Computing Chemistry & High Performance Computing Application" was held in Qingdao of the Shandong Province from 29 June to 3 July. The Workshop was jointly financed by the Supercomputing Center of CAS, the Computing Chemistry Visual Lab of the CAS Computer Network Information Center, the 863 Program of the Ministry of Science & Technology as well as the National Natural Science Foundation Committee of China. Approximately 70 prominent scientists from China, USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan participated in the Workshop.

　　Prof. HAN Kali of DICP, who is also the Director of the Computing Chemistry Visual Lab(CCVL) of the CAS Computing Network Information Center(CCNIC) and was the Academic Chairman of the Workshop, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. LU Zhonghua, Vice-Director of CCNIC, delivered an opening address. In the opening session, Prof. Hiroki Nakamura from Japan gave a plenary lecture. This session was chaired by Prof. HE Guozhong of DICP (Member of CAS).

　　A total of 39 scholars, including Dr. Paul Ayers from Canada, Dr. YANG Weitao from USA, Prof. LIU Wenjian from Peking University and Prof. ZHANG Donghui from DICP, also presented plenary lectures in the subsequent sessions.

　　In the evening of 1st July, awards were given to young scientists for outstanding posters. DICP graduate students ZHAO Guangjiu, WU Ling, KANG Lihua and ZHANG Aijie were among the award winners. The awards were bestowed by Prof. LIU Wenjian and Prof. YANG Jinlong, both Vice-Directors of CCVL.
